Meine Lieben!

Ich habe da was Fertiges zu zeigen! Nicht ganz zwei Monate habe ich für meinen Sea Glass Sweater gebraucht. Und da laut Statistik im Februar mein meist gelesener Blogbeitrag der, über die Anfänge des Pullis war [Nieder mit dem Stash], möchte ich euch natürlich meine abschließenden Gedanken zu diesem Projekt nicht vorenthalten.

I have something finished to show you! It took me not quite two months to complete my Sea Glass Sweater. And since, according to the statistics, my most read blog post in February was the one about the beginnings of this jumper [Bust that stash], of course I don't want to keep my final thoughts on this project from you.

Als ich im Januar mit dem Sea Glass Sweater anfing, war ich sofort süchtig danach. Mir gefiel die Idee so gut, Garnreste aufzubrauchen und dabei ein echtes Unikat schaffen kann. Niemand wird einen Pulli haben, der wie meiner aussehen wird. Und ich wusste, er wird fantastisch werden!

Jede freie Minute wollte ich am liebsten daran stricken und das, obwohl man bei diesem Colourwork Pullover jede Runde mit zwei anderen Farben strickt. Ganz viele haben mich gefragt, wie ich das mit den vielen Fäden mache, die man dadurch natürlich bekommt.

Hierzu muss ich sagen, dass die Designerinnen Selena und Abbye von Wool and Pine hier ein paar Möglichkeiten in der Anleitung mitgeben. Und ich habe mich für die - meiner Meinung nach - einfachste Methode entschieden und die Fäden immer gleich mit dem magic knot [hier ein schönes YouTube Video] verbunden, sodass ich am Ende kaum was zum Vernähen hatte.

Bei dieser Technik erhält man am Ende allerdings auch viele kleine Fadenschnipsel und man kann halt nicht einfach durchstricken, sondern stoppt jede Runde für den Farbwechsel. Beim Körper fand ich das nicht weiter störend, bei den Ärmeln dann schon ein wenig, denn schließlich ist so eine kleine Runde schnell gestrickt.

Was ich wohl mit den Fadenresten anstellen werde? Ich werf ja ungern Wolle weg, vermutlich hebe ich sie auf und verwende sie als Füllmaterial.

 

When I started the Sea Glass Sweater in January, I was immediately hooked. I loved the idea of being able to use up scraps of yarn and create a truly unique piece. No one will have a jumper that will look like mine. And I knew it was going to be amazing!

I wanted to spend every free minute knitting on it, even though with this colourwork jumper you knit with two different colours every round. A lot of people have asked me how I deal with all the threads that naturally come with it.

I have to say that the designers Selena and Abbye from Wool and Pine give a few possibilities in the pattern. And I chose the - in my opinion - easiest method and always connected the threads immediately with the magic knot [here is a nice YouTube video], so that I hardly had anything to weave in at the end.

However, with this technique you end up with a lot of little snippets of yarn and you can't just knit straight through, you have to stop every round for the colour change. I didn't find this too annoying working on the body, but it was a little uncomfortable working on the sleeves, because after all, such a small round is knitted quickly.

I wonder what I'll do with the yarn scraps? I don't like to throw away yarn, so I'll probably save it and use it as filling material.

 

Wenn ich schon von den Ärmeln spreche. In einer meiner YouTube Folgen hab ich das ja schon erwähnt. Wenn man perfektionistisch veranlagt ist, hat man hier ein kleines Problem. Natürlich wollte ich zwei farblich halbwegs identische Ärmel haben. Was sag ich, nichts "halbwegs", ich wollte sogar, dass sie zum Farbschema des Körpers passen.

Also hatte ich mir tatsächlich die Mühe gemacht, und nach dem Abteilen der Ärmel jede Runde notiert. Ich glaube, es waren am Ende drei DIN A 4 Seiten, auf denen standen, welche zwei Farben ich jeweils verwendet hatte.

Und ich muss sagen, dass ich das eigentlich gar nicht so schlimm fand. Mich hätte es mehr aufgeregt, wenn ich immer am bereits gestrickten Teil hätte nachschauen müssen, was ich da für Farben verwendet hatte.

So ging es dann doch relativ schnell, das Ärmelstricken. Und ich bin super happy, wie mein fertiges Pulli am Ende geworden ist. Es war also die Mühe wert.

 

Talking about the sleeves. I already mentioned that in one of my YouTube episodes. If you're a perfectionist, you have a bit of a problem here. Of course, I wanted to have two sleeves that were more or less identical in colour. What am I saying, not "more or less", I actually wanted them to match the colour scheme of the body,too.

So I had actually made the effort, and after dividing the sleeves, noted down each round. I think I ended up with three DIN A 4 pages saying which two colours I had used each time.

And I have to say that I actually didn't find that too bad. I would have been more upset if I had always had to look at the already knitted piece to see what colours I had used.

So it went relatively quickly, the sleeve knitting. And I'm super happy with how my finished jumper turned out in the end. So it was worth the effort.

 

Zum Schluss noch ein paar Fakten. Gestrickt habe ich die Größe für 102 (40'') Brustumfang. Die Designerinnen empfehlen eine Größe zu wählen, die etwa 12cm-20cm (5''-8'') über dem gemessen Umfang liegt. Der Pulli sitzt meiner Meinung nach perfekt. Nicht zu eng, nicht zu weit, einfach bequem. Verbraucht habe ich insgesamt 1849 Meter an Garn, 594g an unterschiedlichen Garnstärken. Aufgebraucht habe ich nicht viel, aber doch ein paar Reste. Besonders freue ich mich über die ganz kleinen, bei denen man immer gar nicht so weiß, was man damit eigentlich machen soll.

Ich hatte bisher selten so viel Freude an einem Strickprojekt und als ich die letzten Maschen abkettete, so tat ich das mit einem lachenden und doch auch einem weinenden Auge. Denn natürlich freue ich mich darauf, meinen Sea Glass Sweater nun ausführen zu können. Aber es ist tatsächlich so, dass ich dieses Projekt schon sehr vermisse. Wer weiß, vielleicht muss ich ja noch einmal in meinen Restestash abtauchen?

So, wenn ich euch nun nach zwei Blogposts und ein paar YouTube Episoden immer noch nicht dazu gebracht habe, den Sea Glass anzuschlagen, dann weiß ich auch nicht :D

In conclusion, here are a few facts. I knitted the size for a 102 (40'') bust measurement. The designers recommend choosing a size with about 12cm-20cm (5''-8'') positive ease. The jumper fits perfectly in my opinion. Not too tight, not too wide, just comfortable. I used a total of 1849 metres of yarn, 594g of different yarn weights. I didn't use up a lot, but still a few of my scrapy. I'm especially happy about the bits and pieces that I never really know what to do with.

I have rarely had so much fun with a knitting project and when I bound off the last stitches, I did so with mixed feelings. I mean, of course I'm looking forward to being able to wear my Sea Glass Sweater now. But actually, I do miss this project a lot. Who knows, maybe I'll have to dive into my scrap stash again?

So, if after two blogposts and a few YouTube episodes I still haven't got you to cast on the Sea Glass, then I don't know :D
