Caring for Hand Dyed Yarn

YARN WILL BE SHIPPED AS SKEINS

Before you start to knit with your skein(s) of yarn, you have to wind it. You can wind your skein(s) by hand or use a swift and/or ball winder. I am sorry, but for time reasons, I cannot wind the yarn for you.

HAND DYED YARN IS UNIQUE

The nature of hand dyed yarn is its uniqueness. Skeins of the same colourway are never identical.

If you have more than one skein of a particular colourway you want to use for one project, I recommend alternating between two skeins, every few rows. This avoids pooling or a sudden shift of colours.

I RECOMMEND HANDWASHING

Most of our yarn bases are superwash yarns, so yes, they are machine-washable. Nevertheless I recommend to hand wash all your knitted items. Your projects will last much longer!

1. Fill a tub with warm (not hot) water and add a gentle detergent for woollens. Liquid ones work best. Never use fabric softener! Wash your knitted items separately.

2. Add your knitted item. Allow to soak for at least 10 minutes.

3. Remove as much excess water as possible by rolling it into a ball and gently pressing. Do not wring out wool because your project could be stretched out of shape.

4. Replace the soapy water with clean water and place your knitted item into the tub to rinse. Repeat this step as many times as needed to remove all traces of detergent.

5. Remove excess water by rolling the knitted item into a towl and gently pressing. Lay flat to dry.

BLEEDING YARN

I steam set and rinse every single skein of yarn, however, it is possible for some excess dye to remain. Before starting a project, especially one that uses different colourways, I always recommend that you knit and wash a swatch.

If the yarn bleeds, simply rinse it with a gentle detergent in lukewarm water and repeat this process as neceassary until water runs clean. In the drugstore you will also find colour catcher sheets that protect against discolouration.
